I agree with Shannon. Don't knock the...er...Twitscape...until you've tried it.

No, seriously, though - I'm about on the fence regarding it. I have an account, but virtually nothing happens through it. I get far more "action" - and by that I mean "total responses with people," not "creepy pickup lines," LOL - through Facebook than I do through Twitter, but that may just be a coincidence.

However, the Facebook comparison is worthwhile noting: I've long believed that Facebook is merely WebKinz for grown-ups, with its lame contests, time-waster apps, etc. If I was looking for that sort of thing, then I guess I'd be in hog heaven. But I’m not, so it's merely annoying to get "requests" to join "we love LOST" group or be invited to send someone a virtual "drink." It was fun for about five minutes, but not so much anymore.

Although there are far more people (my age, anyway) on Facebook, I wonder if Twitter couldn't evolve into a sort of Facebook without the annoying add-ons. The difference seems to be that in Facebook, once you add someone as a friend, everything they do gets sent out to you as an update. I don't care that someone I used to know it junior high school who found me and guilted me into adding them as a friend just reached level 27 on "Vampires!" With Twitter, once you start "following" someone, you get everything as well....but it's only everything they actually take the trouble to write down, not every contest they enter, game they play, song they dedicate, etc. To me, anyway, that seems much more manageable.

Plus, Twitter allows you to "follow" people without having to "friend" them officially like you do on Facebook. I don't know whether it's just me who finds this interesting and worthwhile, but I use it to keep virtual tabs on people like Newt Gingrich, so that, when he tweets "I'm doing Hannity tonight," I can be there with the obvious snarky reply: "Well....Hannity's certainly never been MY type, but I say don't be ashamed of your love!"

Juvenile? Perhaps, but hey, this is ME we're talking about here. Plus, by what other method do I get to insta-mock major wingnut political figures for stupid comments, all in REAL TIME? That's worth more than gold, to someone like me. ;o)

I've been "following" Senator David Vitter (he of the DC Madam prostitute scandal and the rumored predilection for diapers) for a while now, waiting for him to tweet something too good to pass up. I'll keep ya posted. ;o)

Don't slam it till you try it. I thought it was stupid at first too. You've got to try it first to wrap your mind around the possibilities.
