If you haven’t yet, go see Avatar in 3D now.
I honestly wasn’t all that interested in seeing it when it first came out, but my brother and a good friend, among others, did enough recommending that Cris and I decided to go see it last night. It didn’t take long to realize that Avatar is going to end up being more of a phenomenon than a movie.
First things first, 3D is badass. I had never seen a movie in 3D so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but it definitely delivered. It actually took my eyes a few minutes to adjust and things looked strangely fuzzy early one, but once that settled it was visually beautiful.
This was also an ideal movie to really showcase 3D. As I’m sure everyone knows, most of the movie is animated and I think that really lends itself to providing your audience with an abundance of eye candy. My favorite parts were easily when they were moving through the forest and you really got a flavor of the different depths of the trees and foliage. I do think there were a couple of instances where they unnecessarily drew out scenes a little bit too much, but not something I’m going to complain about.
Oh yeah, there’s other stuff about the movie besides 3D. The basic plot line isn’t anything groundbreaking, but the concept and environment are truly impressive. The whole world they created was really, really cool. One of my favorite things was the highlighting of luminescence on Pandora. Almost everything in the world lit up and added an extra layer of visual cool. The writing and delivery wasn’t always top notch, but we all know that’s not what the movie is all about.
I led off saying it, and I’ll conclude saying the same thing. Go see Avatar now. Its absolutely worth seeing and something you should most certainly see in the theater. Its really not going to have the same impact on your TV and DVD isn’t going to cut it.
Told you.
