About
So what’s your story?
I’m Erik and I live and work in Northern Virgina, just outside of DC. Married in September 09, my wife is a recently barred lawyer and one of the smartest people I know (which can be annoying sometimes).
What’s your website about?
Whatever I feel like it being about at any given time. Topics typically include US National Team soccer, college football, current events, and the stupidity of government/politics. I’ve also shared some of our travel adventures and photos whenever I’d had the opportunity.
What do you do besides work and write a crappy blog?
I play too many video games, I’m trying to learn to play the guitar, and dream of ways to become independently wealthy without selling my soul.
Why “ThePresentTense.net?”
Present Tense is a great song by Pearl Jam, my favorite band. When I was trying to think of a name for my Wordpress.com site I was in the middle of a PJ binge and the CD I kept listening to at the time had Present Tense on it. The chorus of the song essentially says that you can sit around thinking about your past or you can focus on living in the present tense. Considering this blog will serve as a running account of the current happenings in my life and my thoughts on any number of things going on in the world, I thought the name was fitting.
Seriously, people still listen to Pearl Jam?
I get this question a lot when I tell people PJ is my favorite band. Yes, people still listen to them, and they’re still together. They released their latest album in 2009, its freaking awesome, and you should go buy it. And if you like rock and don’t go see them in concert, you’ve missed one of the best shows you could see.
Do you really think people read your blog?
I think I’m the guy with 25 relatives and friends that sells 25 copies of the book he wrote, ten of those purchased by his parents.
