Yesterday when I was talking about charging people to use the toilet on airplanes, I was kidding. Ryan Air’s new motto is going to be, “Boldly charging for what has never been charged for before.”

Grab Bag Post
I came across a handful of things in the news that caught my attention today that I wanted to share and comment on. In the spirit of saving time and a li’l bit of space I threw them all together in one post.
Random in Delhi
I know I’ve already noted how high and low Delhi can be, but this little bit of crazy deserved its own post. What the hell is someone driving a Lamborghini in the middle of Delhi for?

Quick Christmas Thoughts
Merry Christmas all. Just a couple of quick thoughts for the holiday weekend.
Thanks American Airlines for not charging for luggage on our flight out. We really do appreciate it and wish you a Merry Christmas as well.
First, truly white Christmas this year was pretty cool. We didn’t get a ton of snow here in Missouri, but it was enough to satisfy me.
Christmases that start at 6:30 AM are Christmases that start a little too early. And I’m still trying to get used to Christmases with big families. I’m still used to smaller, more low key Christmases myself, but this was still really fun nonetheless.
Kids go along way towards reminding you of the mystery and wonder of Christmas even if their not yours and your watching them open gifts that you didn’t give them.
Hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and ate way more than they should like I did.
Snowpocalypse 2009: The Aftermath
Usually, talk about snowstorms happening in the cities I live in are full of hyperbole and sensationalism. Huge storms often turn into nothing, but this time the predictions were pretty much right on. I think the final accumulation count came to right around 20 inches.
What I do know is that uncovering two cars from 20 inches of snow takes forever and is tiring as hell. I also realized that it brings the grumpy old man in me out. Half of the time I was shoveling snow I kept thinking that I was going to do all this work, and as soon as I moved my car some lazy jackass that didn’t shovel their car out was going to park in my space. Then when I got back I was going to be stuck with a crappy space that I can’t get in and out of. Sort of makes the whole exercise feel futile. I realize that I can’t do anything about it, but it doesn’t make me any less annoyed about it.
In a positive karmic twist, the gods are blessing me with an unexpected day off from work. Apparently, all that snow I was shoveling was enough to lock down the area enough for them to cancel work here. I’ll take another day off from work for losing my good parking space.

You’re living under a rock if you don’t know about the big snowstorm we’re having along the mid-Atlantic coast and north. Cris and I have had a pretty nice day of lazying about, but we did for a brief walk earlier to soak it in. The cool thing for me is that this is by far the most snow I’ve ever had in a place I’ve lived and I particularly like that it came so close to Christmas. Here are some pics we took out walking around our neighborhood.
Chicago from a Taxi Window
Last Friday my boss asked me to come to Chicago for work…Saturday. Even though the timing wasn’t great because I have been traveling more than I typically like recently, the work opportunity was too good to pass up. Since getting here I’ve realized a couple of things.
I’m so very over traveling right now. I would like nothing more than to wake up in my bed, throw on some sweats, move to the couch, and watch college football all day.
Even though this is my second time in Chicago, I don’t feel like I can actually say that I’ve been here. The first time was passing through with my mom on the way to her high school reunion in the small town in middle Illinois. We stopped in town long enough to visit one of the museums and then headed on.
This time, the only thing I’ve seen of Chicago has been from the back seat of a taxi between my hotel and the office. I’m not sure that counts as being to a place.
Cross your fingers for me that the rain doesn’t delay my flight tomorrow or that I don’t get stuck here.
Random, Funny Quote on Health Care Reform Debate
This isn’t as good as my all time favorite Washington quote, but sometimes we get some good quality biting sarcasm from this city. Even if I don’t like the person saying it or don’t necessarily agree with the sentiment being expressed, I have to give credit where credit is due when someone makes a great point using biting humor.
Felt like sharing this little gem from this article on the health care reform debate.
The idea that the insurance industry would complain about high premiums is like the Yankees complaining that they’re hitting too many home runs. It’s totally preposterous
For the record, my favorite quote to date came from Donald Rumsfeld leading up to the invasion of Iraq when asked about France’s lack of support for the war. Paraphrasing his response he said, “Going to war without France is like going hunting without your accordion.”
I’m definitely not a fan of Rumsfeld, but that’s funny.
Checking In
Obviously, I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been really busy at work lately and haven’t had a ton of time to write for the blog. By the time I get home from work, I spend a couple of hours relaxing and eating and then I go to bed.
Despite my busy-ness, there are some very exciting things going on right now.
College football is back. I love college football and I’m giddy like a school girl. If you haven’t spent a Saturday in a good college town on game day then you haven’t really lived. And let me be clear, when I say a good college town I mean a SEC or ACC town like Athens, GA, Auburn, AL or Charlottesville, VA. A place where the town is partly built around the school. Okay, I’m going to have to stop talking about it because I don’t live in a town like that anymore and its making me sad.
Second exciting thing going right now is that EPL is back. I think as I’ve been less and less capable of dealing with the rigors of playing soccer, I’ve become more more interested in watching it on TV. This is not something that makes Cris happy. The best part about the new EPL season is that ESPN is playing an EPL game each weekend in high-def. Mmmmmm, soccer in hi-def. And scheduling wise, at least some of the EPL matches will be over before College Gameday starts.
And the biggy of biggies? In exactly two weeks I’ll be married. A year and a half is way too long to be engaged. Planning, at times, has been worse than I thought it would be, but its almost over and it will totally be worth it in the end.
The light at the end of the tunnel, in addition to being married, is a plane from St. Louis, MO to Florence, Italy. What I expect to be almost two of the most glorious weeks ever in Florence, Tuscany, Venice, and the Lake Geneva area of Switzerland. I. Can’t. Wait.
So that’s the news right now. I’m going to try to post more often than I have been lately, but we’ll just have to see how busy everything is.
