Avatar in 3D

If you haven’t yet, go see Avatar in 3D now.

I honestly wasn’t all that interested in seeing it when it first came out, but my brother and a good friend, among others, did enough recommending that Cris and I decided to go see it last night.  It didn’t take long to realize that Avatar is going to end up being more of a phenomenon than a movie.

Two Movie Reviews

Recently saw a couple of movies that I thought I’d put my two cents in on.

We watched Elizabethtown on DVD the other day at the house.  It was a little different than I expected, but it was really good.  The thirty second summary: On the same day Orland Bloom discovers that the shoe he designed for his company is a catastrophic failure to the tune of $972 million, he also finds out that his father died.  His mother and sister, who can’t handle it, send him to Kentucky to bring his father home to Oregon.  On the flight to Kentucky Bloom meets unusual flight attendant Kirsten Dunst.

Happy then Sad: GI Joe Movie Trailer

I hear that they’re making a GI Joe movie and I get excited.  What guy that grew up watching GI Joe cartoons wouldn’t get excited?  GI Joe was a very important part of my childhood.  I mean where else would I have learned that knowing is half the battle.

Sadly, my excitement waned significantly when I saw one of the trailers for the movie.  While this looks like it could be a pretty cool action movie in and of itself, its the furthest thing from GI Joe.  It looks like the same thing that happened with Miami Vice.  Though I never saw it, I heard it had nothing of the flavor of the original show.

This movie will probably make money based on the name, which I think its an absolute crime.  If you’re going to make a movie based on GI Joe, make it about GI Joe.  Don’t fool people by trading on a name, but having none of the real “real american hero” stuff there.
