Superbowl Halftime Show

Am I the only person in the world that thinks the Black Eyed Peas are kind of crap?  The spectacle was alright in terms of the light show and dancing and the like but the music was unwelcome.

Their rendition of Sweet Child ‘O Mine truly hurt a part of my music loving heart, and the fact that Slash agreed to be a part of it made it even worse.  I always thought his guitar rif was the heart of that song, but I realized tonight that, as batcrap crazy as he is, Axl Rose’s voice was the soul.  Fergie was just bad.

And lastly, that “I’ve Got a Feeling” song really makes me want to cry.  I am in the minority of people who were in my house tonight of who hates that song and who likes it, but seriously is it not the most repetitive song ever written?  It truly makes me angry.  If I never have to hear that song again I will be a happier person.

Stolen “Overheard in DC”

I’m totally cribbing this from the http://dcist.com (I hope they don’t mind since I’m giving credit) but its just too damn funny not to share.

This kid = genius
(July 9)

On the 14th Street bus:

Little kid 1: “I want Chinese food!”
Little kid 2: “I want pizza!”
Little kid 3: “I want Chinese food stuffed in a pizza!”

Check out the rest of their best of “Overheard in DC 2010″ here.

Best Play Ever

My favorite football to watch is easily college football, but the best play I’ve seen in a long time, maybe ever, comes from a middle school game.  This has been on the news a lot lately, but I had to make sure as many people as possible see this play.

I think my favorite part is the reaction of the defensive linemen that can’t figure out what the quarterback is doing.  It’s great.

The Sad State of Our Country

It’s things like this Slate article that have made me completely disenchanted and inclined to weep for the future of this country.  Love him or hate him, how can you still have a complete lack of understanding about some fundamental characteristics of the leader of your country?  And I’m not sure which is worse, the Republicans who don’t know that Obama isn’t a Muslim or the Democrats that haven’t figured it out.  Yeah, I’m going to go with Democrats.

HE’S THE LEADER OF YOUR PARTY AND YOU DON’T KNOW SOMETHING REALLY FUNDAMENTAL ABOUT HIM.  REALLY?

On top of that, the numbers are trending in the wrong direction.  Instead of people getting a more accurate understanding, a greater percentage of people are getting wrong as time goes on.

Sad.  Just sad.

Blogging Tip

Okay, I know what you’re saying.  ”What the hell can he tell me about blogging?  He can’t even manage to post anything in 3 weeks.”

Yeah, that’s what my tip is about.  Don’t write a post about starting to post more and reinvigorating you blog in the middle of the World Cup, when you’re about to move into your first house, and you just got new responsibilities at work that consistently keep you at the office 10-12 hours a day every day.

So we’re pretty much moved in now and the World Cup is over *sniff*, but the work thing hasn’t abated yet.  That being said, we’re going to make a go at this.  Posts will likely shorter than some used to be, but its better than nothing.  We’ll see what happens.

Street Traffic in Dhaka

A couple of months ago I had to go to Dhaka, Bangladesh for work.  Its kind of hard to give an accurate accounting of what its like in Dhaka using words and I didn’t really have an opportunity to take any pictures because of my work schedule.

Check out the video in this article to get a decent taste of what the streets are like there.  It’s actually a little bit worse in real life in terms of how crowded with cars the streets are than this video portrays.  Also know that there are a ton of vendors like this boy in the streets and a ton of beggars, most of whom are in really bad shape right next to them.
